Yadira Gonzalez have been identified by authorities as the deceased in an alleged DUI automotive collision that occurred in Delano on May 13. Ms. Gonzalez, a 44-year-old local resident, was driving a Chevrolet Cruze on Highway 55 east prior to 5:30 a.m. when a Hondo Civic driven by Reane Demery, 26 and a resident of Bakersfield, heading west allegedly crossed lanes and collided head on with the Ms. Gonzalez’s car. The force of the collision was strong enough to cause the Civic’s engine to be thrown from the car onto the road. First responders took both Ms. Gonzalez and Ms. Demery to an area hospital by air.  Both women were injured but Ms. Gonzalez died from her injuries. Meanwhile, authorities say that they determined that Ms. Demery was under the influence at the time of the accident and have charged her with a felony DUI and, according to sources, may also be charged with vehicular manslaughter. The investigation is ongoing.
