Thomas Diermier, a 95-year-old San Andreas resident, has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a collision that occurred on June 10 near the border between Amador County and Calaveras County. Sean Vasko, 38 and a resident of Plymouth, as well as three 12-year-old children, were severely injured in the collision. Authorities say that they believe that Mr. Diermier was driving a Lexus on the northbound section Highway 95, when he apparently attempted to pass a very large logging truck by moving over the double yellow line. The Lexus crashed head-on into a GMC Denali SUV, which Mr. Vasko was driving. Mr. Diermier’s Lexus caught on fire and the elderly man died at the scene. Mr. Vasko and the three children were rushed to area hospitals with severe injuries.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased during this difficult time, and we extend our best wishes for recovery to the injured.
