Robert Verlin Bruno, Jr. has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a multiple vehicle chain reaction accident that occurred on February 6 in Pine Valley. Mr. Bruno had stopped to help after a collision that occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m. on Interstate 8, which was reportedly iced to some degree. A Ford F-150 pickup truck lost control over ice, striking the Pine Valley Bridge. As Mr. Bruno was attempting to rescue an individual caught inside the truck, a Subaru Outback SUV and another unnamed vehicle crashed collided both with each other and disabled pickup truck. Mr. Bruno reportedly avoided the crash by joining the guard rail, where he fell to his death. Mr. Bruno, a resident of Jacumba, was 48-years-old. An infant was reportedly in one of the vehicles involved but was reportedly unharmed.
