April Dawn Wigand and Rico Burley have been identified by authorities as the deceased in an automotive collision that took place in Fallbrook on February 16. Mr. Burley, a 42-year-old local resident, and Ms. Wigand, a 39-year-old resident of Oceanside, were inside an early 2000s Ford Mustang being driven by Mr. Burley on Old Highway 395 prior to 2:10 p.m. Mr. Burley attempted to pass one or more vehicles on the two-lane highway when the man spotted oncoming traffic and attempted to return to his original lane, losing control of the vehicle in the process. The Mustang hit a tree before falling into an embankment. Both occupants were thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.
