Martha Guzman has been identified by authorities as the deceased in an car vs. pickup truck collision that occurred in Ceres on May 18. Ms. Guzman, a 55-year-old Modesto resident, was driving a Toyota Corolla at roughly 6:30 a.m. on Hatch Road. For reasons that have not been provided, Ms. Guzman’s car went across the median and spun-out in the opposing lane of traffic. Joe Soriano, 18-years-old and also a Modesto resident, was driving a pickup truck and collided with Ms. Guzman’s car. The woman died at the scene after receiving serious injuries. The young man driving the truck was treated for injuries described as minor. A passenger in his vehicle was unhurt. Authorities say they do not suspect substances were involved but that rain may have played a role in the tragic collision.
