Margarita Erostico Ruiz has been identified by authorities as the victim in a car accident apparently caused by a falling brick that occurred in Concord on April 10. Ms. Ruiz, a 63-year-old Antioch resident was a passenger in the front seat of a Volkswagen Jetta driving on Highway 242 at around 9:30 p.m. She was in the car with her grandchildren, including her 20-year-old grandson, who was driving, and granddaughters age 11 and 13. A brick or a brick fragment broke the windshield and struck the woman. The woman very tragically died at the scene. Contra Costa County sheriffs believe that several bricks were deliberately dropped onto the freeway, causing the deadly accident. An investigation is ongoing and witnesses to the heinous crime are being sought.
