Maayan Jones has been identified by authorities as the victim in an apparent bicycle versus SUV head-on collision that occurred June 26 in the Mount Diablo area of unincorporated Contra Costa County. Mr. Jones, a 46-year-old Novato resident, was apparently bicycling on a narrow stretch of Mount Diablo Scenic Boulevard when he collided with an SUV at approximately 4:30 p.m. Mr. Jones was taken to John Muir Medical Center but died from his injuries, despite the fact that he was wearing a bicycle helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the SUV reportedly stopped and cooperated with authorities. A DUI is not suspected. However,  the California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident and seeking out any witnesses.

We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the victim during this difficult time.
