Luvette Monarque, a 36-year-old resident of North Hollywood and a mother of two, has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a multi-vehicle collision that occurred on May 31 in Berkeley, marking a tragic end to a vacation with family. Lissette Monarque, 32., has been hospitalized with serious injuries. The sisters were passengers in a Ford Fiesta with other family members on Haste Street near Fulton Street shortly before 11:50 p.m. At that time, the compact car was reportedly struck by a Tesla traveling at a high rate of speed. The Tesla also reportedly collided with a Dodge pickup truck. Other members of the Monarques’ family received less serious injuries. Of the five people reportedly inside the Tesla, one was admitted to an area hospital. An investigation is ongoing. A DUI is not suspected, authorities say, but speed is very likely to be an issue.

We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the victims during this difficult time.
