Karen Ward has been identified by authorities as the deceased in an automotive collision that took place in Fowler on March 5. Ms. Ward, 68, was a passenger in a Ford Fusion being driven by her husband, Douglas Ward, 71, prior to 8:30 a.m. Authorities say that they believe that Mr. Ward failed to stop at a sign at the corner of Fowler Avenue and American Avenue, where it collided with a big-rig driven by Justo Cantu Jr, a 45-year-old Del Rey resident. First-responder found the couple injured. Sadly, Ms. Ward expired from her injuries at the scene. Mr. Ward was seriously injured and was taken to a hospital in nearby Fresno. Mr. Cantu was reportedly unharmed. However, authorities allege that Mr. Cantu was not currently licensed to drive commercially. The case remains under investigation.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased victim during this difficult time.
