Juan Muniz III has been identified by authorities as the victim in an alleged DUI pedestrian collision that took place in Oceanside on January 26. Mr. Muniz, a 22-year-old Marine from Kingsville, Texas, was walking across North Coast Highway near Sportfisher Drive at about 1:10 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle allegedly driven by William Vaden, 31. Mr. Muniz, who was stationed at nearby Camp Pendleton, was gravely injured and taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital but died from his injuries not long afterwards. Meanwhile Mr. Vaden was determined to have been drinking and charged on a misdemeanor DUI count.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the victim during this very difficult time.
