Janet Alicia Chavez-Calixto and David Ramirez have been identified by authorities as the deceased victims in a wrong-way collision impacting as many as 12 vehicles that took place in Chula Vista on February 1. Accounts of the tragedy differ but some reports indicate that a black truck was allegedly speeding, without its lights on, northward in south lanes of the Interstate 5 Freeway at around 5:00 a.m. The truck collided with a number of cars including one driven by Ms. Chavez-Calixto, a 24-year-old San Diego resident, and another driven by Mr. Ramirez, a 23-year-old military veteran driving a Ford Focus who was also a San Diego resident. Both young people were killed. Two others were injured, one severely. Meanwhile, it’s not clear whether or not the truck remained at the scene or even if it was definitely the vehicle that was driving the wrong way. The case remains under investigation.

We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and families of the deceased during this difficult time.
