Ivan Sepulveda, an 18-year-old Salinas high school student, has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a police-pursuit related collision that occurred around on March 30 in Salina. Authorities allege that Mr. Sepulveda, who was driving a 2011 Lexus, was attempting to evade a Sheriff’s deputy at speeds as high as 100 mph. The deputy was allegedly pursuing the young man for suspected reckless driving. The car turned onto Alisal Road. The Lexus collided into a pole and the young man was reportedly thrown from the vehicle. Mr. Sepulveda was taken to an area hospital by first-responders, but he succumbed to his injuries later. A 17-year-old passenger received only minor injuries. Authorities say that passenger was wearing a seatbelt, but Ivan Sepulveda was not.
