Gwenevieve Ophelia Rubis, a 16-year-old resident of Hawaii, and Joseph Dias, a 71-year-old local resident, have been identified by authorities as the victims in a Merced-area motorcycle collision that occurred on June 14th. Mr. Dias was apparently riding a Harley Davidson from 2002 on Hornitos Road and Ms. Rubis was a passenger. Mr. Dias reportedly tried to pass an SUV, colliding sideways with Chevorlet pickup truck carrying a trailer and then was struck by the SUV, a Toyota RAV4. Authorities believe that Mr. Dias and Ms. Rubis were thrown from the Harley and died from their injuries before first responders were able to help them. The drivers of the larger vehicles were named as Christine Marie Vanloon, a 61-year-old Merced resident, and Lewis Conway Prock, a 34-year-old resident of Denair. The tragic incident remains under investigation, reports say.

Our deepest condolences to the friends and families of the victims during this difficult time.
