Dave Lopez has been identified by authorities as the deceased in an automotive collision that took place on December 16 in Manteca. Mr. Lopez, a 53-years-old and a former member of the Modesto City Council, was driving his Chevrolet pickup truck on Highway 120 at roughly 12:10 p.m. when his vehicle was struck with great force by a Freightliner big rig. The semi had also struck a Dodge SUV with three individuals inside. Reports indicate that authorities believe the driver of the semi, a 28-year-old male, was failing to drive in a safe manner in regards to the flow of traffic. Mr. Lopez was badly injured and taken to San Joaquin General Hospital where he died shortly afterward. Three other individuals were treated for minor injuries and the truck driver also have minor wounds but declined treatment. The incident remains under investigation.
