Channey Ayala has been identified by authorities as the victim following an alleged hit-and-run collision that took place in Salinas on December 1, also killing her dog. Ms. Ayala was walking her dog and crossing at the intersection of John Street and Work Street at about 11:00 p.m. when she and the animal were struck by a vehicle which left the scene. The dog died at the scene but Ms. Ayala was taken to Natividad Medical Center and hospitalized until December 12 when she tragically passed away due to her injuries. The investigation and search for the alleged hit-and-run driver by the Salinas Police Department continues. Ms. Ayala was 45-years-old.
