Caesar Augusto Ortiz Jr., a 25-year-old Banning resident, has been identified by authorities as the victim in a three-car collision that occurred on August 7 in Calimesa. Mr. Ortiz was driving on the Interstate 10 Freeway prior to 2:25 a.m. in a Kia Sorrento when he collided with another vehicle for reasons that have not been provided. The force of the collision caused the Kia to enter another lane where it was struck by a Toyota Camry. Mr. Ortiz perished from his injuries at the scene of the collision. The driver of the Camry, identified as 56-year-old Kenneth Sims, a San Jacinto resident, was not harmed. The causes of the accident are under investigation by the California Highway Patrol in San Bernardino.
