Ashley Nicole Castillo and Brian Adams have been identified by authorities as the deceased in a head-on collision that took place in the vicinity of Santa Maria on April 6. Mr. Adams and Ms. Castillo, both 29-year-old residents of Bakersfield, were in a 1992 Honda Accord, with Mr. Adams driving on Highway 166 at roughly 12:30 p.m. For reasons that have not been stated, the Honda went off course into opposing traffic. It collided with a 2016 Nissan Sentra driven by Erica Kemp and two other area college students, Mariana Silverman, and Keilani Waxdeck. Ms. Castillo and Mr. Adams died at the scene of the crash. The three young women in the Sentra, aged 20 or 21, suffered a range of injuries, with the most serious suffered by Ms. Silverman for which they were taken to area hospitals. The reason for the accident is apparently unknown at this time.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and families of the deceased during this difficult time.
