Bill Demastus has been identified by authorities as the victim in a pedestrian collision that occurred on February 22 in Claremont. Mr. Demastus, a 95-year-old local resident, was crossing Indian Hill Boulevard outside of the crosswalk shortly prior to 7:00 a.m. when he was hit by a Honda Civic sedan. First responders took the elderly many to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, where he sadly passed away a few days later. The driver reportedly stopped at the scene and aided authorities. Mr. Demastus was well known to his neighbors and had written a booklet about a 1950 encounter with Ernest Hemingway.
