Austin Gambill has been identified by authorities as the teenage victim in a pedestrian collision that occurred on March 11 in South Sacramento. Austin, a 16-year-old Explorer Scout as well as an athlete at Ventura High School, was on the sidewalk of Seaward Avenue at roughly 3:30 p.m. when, for reasons that have not been explained, a vehicle described as a work truck went on to the sidewalk and struck the boy. Austin was taken to an area hospital but died from his injuries a few days later. The driver of the truck stopped at the scene and spoke with authorities. The case is being investigated.

We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the victim during this difficult time.
