Alejandro Vargas Jr., a 13-year-old Bakersfield resident, has been identified by authorities as the deceased in a tragic pedestrian collision that occurred on June 30 in the Kern County city. Alejandro was among a group of teenagers who were at a bus stop on Niles Boulevard. The teens reportedly started to cross the street but three of the children noticed an oncoming vehicle and returned to the sidewalk. Unfortunately, Alejandro failed to see the car and was hit. He was taken to an area hospital but perished from his injuries. Reports indicate that the car was not speeding but police are exploring whether it’s possible if distraction may have played a role in preventing the driver of the car from stopping in time. An investigation is ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased during this extremely difficult time.
